Mike Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies have bounced back since their Week 1 home loss to Notre Dame. Much of that success has been due to the improved play at quarterback, with starter Conner Weigman bouncing back in Week 2 after throwing for 100 total yards, 2 interceptions and no touchdowns in the loss to the Irish.
Weigman played well in Week 2 against McNeese, despite battling through a shoulder injury he suffered against Notre Dame in the opener. He completed 11 of his 14 attempts for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Ahead of Saturday’s home SEC clash against Arkansas, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko met with the media and provided an update on Weigman’s status as he’s missed the last 2 games with a shoulder injury.
Elko said Weigman will be a “gametime decision” against the Razorbacks.

While Weigman suited up for the Florida game, Texas A&M ultimately turned to backup QB Marcel Reed, who shined. Reed threw for 178 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win over the Gators and added 83 yards and a score as a runner. The Aggies’ backup followed up with another solid performance against Bowling Green on Saturday, throwing for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns, while adding another 91 yards as a runner.
Reed has clearly stepped up when his number was called and it’s unclear if the Aggies will continue with him as the QB once Weigman is fully healthy.
