Mike Elko is beginning to put together his coaching staff at Texas A&M, and he reached out to a familiar name in recent college football history.

Elko contacted current Kansas State offensive coordinator Collin Klein and offered him the same position in College Station, and Klein’s decision is pending, per Matt Musil of KHOU. The former K-State quarterback was offered the offensive coordinator job at Penn State last week, but he turned the offer down.

Klein has been on staff with Kansas State since 2017, serving as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. He has helped develop the likes of Jake Waters, Jesse Ertz, Skylar Thompson and Will Howard during his time on staff. Prior to that, Klein was the quarterbacks coach at Northern Iowa.

However, he’s most known for his playing days. Klein broke the Kansas State school record for total touchdowns with 86 and also recorded 4,724 passing yards and 2,485 rushing yards over his four-year career from 2009-12. A Heisman Finalist in 2012, Klein led the Wildcats to a No. 1 ranking in the same season, a Big 12 Championship and a Fiesta Bowl berth. He goes down as one of the greatest players to ever don the silver and purple thanks to his gritty play style and consistency.
