Mike Gundy tried to ease some of the tension Monday morning after Oklahoma State’s 45-3 blowout loss at the hands of UCF.

Gundy showed up to his annual Monday morning press conference with his two dogs and joked, “Figured I might need a guard dog after that coaching, so I brought two of them.”

Oklahoma State was riding high into Orlando after a big upset win over rival Oklahoma just a few weeks ago, but came crashing back down to earth with a 45-3 loss against UCF.

The Cowboys were outgained 592-to-277 by the Knights on Saturday and lost the turnover battle 4-to-1 with quarterback Alan Bowman throwing 3 interceptions. Oklahoma State fell to 7-3 on the season and 5-2 in Big 12 play, while UCF improved to 5-5 on the season and 2-5 in conference play.

UCF started hot out of the gate with a quick touchdown on the first drive, and then the Knights defense forced an Ollie Gordon fumble on the Cowboys’ first possession and they never looked back. The Knights defense was committed early to stopping the run game of Oklahoma State. They held Gordon, a potential Heisman Trophy darkhorse at running back, to just 12 carries for 25 yards. Gordon only averaged 2.1 yards per carry, good for his lowest tally of the season.

Everything went wrong for Oklahoma State Saturday, including forgetting to bring rain gear for the players and coaches, according to ESPN sideline reporter Kris Budden.

Oklahoma State goes on the road to take on Houston this Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
