Mike Gundy takes jab at Connor Stalions, Michigan cheating scandal in postgame interview

Oklahoma State defeated South Dakota State 44-20 in Week 1.

After the game, coach Mike Gundy was asked if he could hear what was being said in the headset as Oklahoma State used its in-helmet communication system for the first time in a game setting.

The ability to communicate with the quarterback is something new for college coaches. Under the new rule, 1 player on each team is allowed to communicate with the coaching staff in-between plays. However, Gundy said he was not allowed — by rule — to listen in on the communication between his coaching staff and players on the field.

“I can’t. They won’t let me hear it,” Gundy said. “If we can get a good IT guy, maybe that one from Michigan (Connor Stalions) that’d be good.”

Stalions is the former staffer who is at the heart of the Michigan sign-stealing scandal. Stalions was also the subject of a Netflix documentary that was released earlier this week.

For the Cowboys, they had a steady offensive performance, with Alan Bowman  throwing for 267 yards and three touchdowns. If he played that well with Gundy not able to hear him, they may want that moving forward throughout the year.

Up next for the Cowboys is a home game against the Arkansas Razorbacks next Saturday.
