Mike Norvell shoulders responsibility for Jaylin Lucas’ lack of involvement in Week 0

Florida State’s upset loss to Georgia Tech caused head coach Mike Norvell to reflect on a lot of things, and one of them seems to be the usage of Jaylin Lucas.
Lucas was expected to be used as something of a Swiss army knife, but we didn’t see much of him at all on Saturday.
“The fact he was limited in touches, I’ve got to do a better job,” Norvell admitted on Wednesday.
And he was, indeed. Lucas carried the ball 2 times for 13 yards and had a single return for 5 yards.
Earlier this year, Norvell spoke about what Lucas brings to the table and how important it is.
“I mean, he was the right fit for our program. It wasn’t necessarily just for the running back room. You see, he’s a dynamic playmaker,” Norvell said. “Last year, we had a couple of really good guys; Trey Benson was one of the most explosive running backs in the country [with] home run-hitting capability. And then also looking in the return game, we’ve been pretty remarkable. Keon last year was the Special Teams Player of the Year in the ACC. So we wanted to make sure that we had that type of dynamic player. With Jalen, when that became potential, it was definitely something that we sought after.”
How FSU moves forward in making changes in its next game plan will be something to monitor, but it seems quite obvious that keeping Lucas in the fold in a much larger manner is essential to achieving offensive success as the season continues.
