Week 2 NFL recap: Mississippi State’s Cox to play on Monday Night Football

Former Mississippi State star and current Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Fletcher Cox is slated to start for the Eagles in their showdown with the Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football. Cox, the only former-Bulldog involved in this week’s primetime game, registered six tackles in last week’s season opening win over Jacksonville.

A handful of former Mississippi State football stars made an impact around the NFL in Sunday’s Week 2 matchups:

  • Johnthan Banks: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ cornerback made four tackles tackles in a 19-17 loss to the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.
  • Josh Boyd: The Green Bay Packers’ defensive end made two tackles in a 31-24 win over the New York Jets.
  • Anthony Dixon: Dixon carried the ball twice for the Buffalo Bills in a 29-10 win over the Miami Dolphins.
  • Gabe Jackson: The former All-SEC offensive guard started on the offensive line for the second straight week for the Oakland Raiders, who fell 30-14 to the Houston Texans.
  • Tommy Kelly: Kelly registered three tackles and one pass defended from his defensive end position for the Arizona Cardinals, who beat the New York Giants 25-14.
  • Pernell McPhee: The Baltimore Ravens’ linebacker recorded one tackle and one pass defended in a 26-6 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers last Thursday night.
  • Derek Sherrod: Sherrod started at offensive tackle for the Green Bay Packers in their win over the Jets.
  • Deontae Skinner: The New England Patriots’ rookie linebacker made two tackles in his NFL regular season debut, which the Patriots won 30-7 over the Minnesota Vikings.
  • Darius Slay: Slay made four tackles for the Detroit Lions in their 24-7 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
  • K.J. Wright: Wright made seven tackles for the Seattle Seahawks in their 30-21 loss to the San Diego Chargers.
