Dak Prescott made a critical error when he fumbled on the first play of the second half, allowing the LSU defense to return the loose ball for a touchdown and cut the Mississippi State lead to 17-10.
However, he made up for that fumble with a statement play on the following drive, running right up the middle on a key third and 3 for a 56-yard touchdown to extend the Bulldogs’ lead back to 14 points. Prescott got downhill quickly on the play, then made a few nifty moves in the open field to elude a handful of LSU defenders on his way to the end zone.
After converting just 1-of-5 third downs in the first half, Prescott converted back-to-back third downs on the Mississippi State scoring drive, including his long touchdown run. He’s now rushed for 70 yards on 13 carries, marking the third straight week he has run for at least 70 yards in a game.
After forcing another LSU punt, Prescott followed his dazzling touchdown run with an even-more dazzling 74-yard touchdown pass to wideout Jameon Lewis to extend the lead to 31-10. Prescott made a few brilliant moves in the pocket to avoid heavy pressure by the Bulldogs, then rolled to his left and found a wide open Lewis down the field standing all alone. Lewis caught the pass and did the rest of the work, extending the Mississippi State lead even further.
Prescott is now 10-of-16 passing for 227 yards and two touchdowns, marking the third straight week he’s thrown for at least 200 yards.
