Mississippi State announces hiring of DC Bob Shoop, OL coach Marcus Johnson

Mississippi State has made it official on a pair of new members for Joe Moorhead’s coaching staff.

Bob Shoop has been hired as the Bulldogs’ defensive coordinator, while Marcus Johnson has been appointed as the offensive line coach. Shoop also will coach safeties.

These hires had been reported previously, but State officially confirmed them Sunday on Twitter.

Shoop comes to Starkville having spent the past two seasons as Tennessee’s defensive coordinator under Butch Jones. Before that, he worked under James Franklin as the DC at Penn State. He also was Vanderbilt’s defensive coordinator from 2011 to 2013.

Johnson had coached Duke’s offensive line since 2011 under David Cutcliffe. He is a native of Coffeeville, Miss., and played under Cutcliffe at Ole Miss, as well.
