Mississippi State freshman wideout enters transfer portal months after signing with team
Mississippi State freshman receiver Justin Brown announced on Thursday he’s in the transfer portal.
Brown was a 3-star signee for the Bulldogs in the 2023 class out of Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Blackman. He held scholarship offers from more than 20 other programs around the country, including from Tennessee and Ole Miss. At the time he committed to the Bulldogs, he did so over a group of finalists that included Penn State, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, and Purdue.
First and foremost, I would like to thank God for blessing me with this ability to play this great game that I love the most. I also want to thank the late great Mike Leach for believing in me. With that being said I will be taking my talents somewhere else. pic.twitter.com/RP830EMShe

The 6-foot, 183-pound receiver was productive as a junior, catching 69 passes for 1,144 yards and 14 touchdowns. As a senior, he brought in another 887 yards and 13 touchdowns on 51 receptions.
Brown enrolled early and went through spring ball with the team.
“Justin is a true wide receiver,” said MSU wideout coach Chad Bumphis during the spring. “He runs good routes. He catches the ball very well. He’s another guy who’s quiet, but he’s learning. He’s always listening and asking good questions. As freshmen, that’s what you want. You want them to come in and you want it to be important to them.”
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
