What a week for Dan Mullen.
Two days after completing the Boston Marathon (and enjoying a subsequent media tour de force), Mullen and the Mississippi State Bulldogs have landed a four-star linebacker for the 2017 class.
Clanga, indeed.

Tyler Dunning, listed at 6-foot and 239 pounds, ranks as the nation’s 10th-best inside linebacker, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Before committing, Dunning previously announced a top 5 of Arkansas, Syracuse, LSU, Kentucky and Tennessee. According to SEC Country, Alabama had been making a push to secure Dunning in recent weeks.
At one point Dunning was committed to the University of Miami. But he de-committed from the Hurricanes after attending Junior Day on Feb. 20. Mark Richt, of course, now coaches Miami.
Beating out other SEC schools for a talented linebacker has to feel good for Bulldogs fans. The 2016 recruiting cycle didn’t end well, and the prize of that class — defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons — has been charged with assault.
Dunning becomes Mississippi State’s 11th commitment for ’17. But only one player rates higher in the 247Sports Composite: Dual-threat quarterback Keytaon Thompson.
