Mississippi State has added a former Illinois assistant coach.
Wide receivers coach Mike Bellamy announced Thursday via Twitter that he will join Mississippi State. Bellamy had been with Illinois since 2012, but he was fired after Lovie Smith replaced Bill Cubit in March.

This will be Bellamy’s first coaching stop in the SEC. The Illinois grad began his career on the sidelines in 2008 as the passing game coordinator at Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia, before moving to Clark Atlanta University as a wide receivers/specialists coach in 2010. In his first season at Illinois, he was an assistant director of player personnel and relations. Bellamy had served as Illinois’ wide receivers coach since 2013.
