Mississippi State continues to honor Mike Leach’s memory, and the late coach was honored during Saturday’s game against Southeast Louisiana.
Mississippi State leaders presented the Leach family with a framed jersey and a signed executive order stating that all flags on state buildings and grounds would be flown at half-staff for a day. This followed a similar gesture that the Bulldogs had Leach’s signature painted on the field.

Coach Zach Arnett spoke of Leach’s impact earlier in the week, and said no one is filling his shoes.
Leach died on Dec. 12 at age 61 following heart complications. Leach was in his 3rd season in Starkville, and helped the Bulldogs keep their 13-year bowl streak alive.
The Bulldogs also honored Leach during their ReliaQuest Bowl victory over Illinois by wearing pirate flag stickers on their helmets, as he was an avid pirate enthusiast, and had several pirate-themed items around his office, and wrote a book that was titled, “Swing Your Sword.”
