Mississippi State interim coach Greg Knox receives overwhelming support following bowl win over Louisville
By Cody McClure
Published:
It’s safe to say that most people outside of Starkville, Miss., probably didn’t expect Mississippi State to beat Louisville and former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Lamar Jackson in the TaxSlayer Bowl.
But that’s exactly what happened on Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville, Fla. — despite the fact that State was a touchdown underdog and didn’t have quarterback Nick Fitzgerald on the field.
The Bulldogs, led by interim coach Greg Knox, pulled off an outstanding performance and downed the Cardinals 31-27.
Twitter reacted positively in its praise for what Knox was able to accomplish in the bowl season:
Mississippi State with a nice win . Interim coach, top QB out, & you still beat Lamar Jackson & Louisville as a touchdown underdog.

Very obvious how much respect those @HailStateFB players have for Greg Knox, to respond the way they did, prepare the way they did and rally around him and each other. Bulldogs win 9 or more games for the third time in last four years.

Win or lose – today I’m proud to be a fan of Mississippi State University. This is a gutsy performance by the whole team – from the ball boy to Greg Knox.

Greg Knox looks like he might be near tears. “I can breathe,” he just said with a huge exhale. Can tell how much this means to him

Thank you so much Greg Knox, Brett Elliot, Ron English, and countless other staffers who are either headed elsewhere or don’t have a job now. A+ effort until the end. Thanks and #HailState

Happy for Greg Knox. Long time SEC assistant. Recruited me while he was at Auburn back in the day. Loved his passion in the post game interview with @colecubelic
