Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr. is officially set to enter the transfer portal, he announced via social media on Tuesday. This marks just one of many quarterbacks to embark on a quest for a new change of scenery now that the regular season is in the books.

Mississippi State faithful, you all have embraced me, supported me and nurtured me both academically and athletically in our short time together,” Van Buren wrote in his announcement.. “My family and I are forever thankful to coach (Jeff) Lebby, the staff, my teammates, the administrative team and the professors for their contributions to my growth as an individual.

“We have worked arm in arm to generate some memorable moments in coach Lebby’s first year, and I am confident there is more greatness to come from the program.”

Van Buren finished out the season with 10 appearances, completing 55% of his passing attempts for 1,886 yards with 11 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. With some of the buzz surrounding Mississippi State’s connection to transfer portal quarterback Jackson Arnold and the fact that veteran Blake Shapen, who transferred just a year ago, has chosen to stay, this does not come as much of a surprise.

It will be interesting to see where Van Buren lands next. The young quarterback showed flashes during some of the chances he was given and has a chance to build upon that foundation elsewhere with the ability to climb the depth chart.
