Mississippi State baseball won its first weekend home series of the 2021 season 2-1 over Tulane with victories by scores of (9-5) and (5-4) on Saturday and Sunday. Tulane claimed the series opener 7-3, however, and the Green Wave’s win in Starkville came with some drama.

In the fifth inning, MSU coaches asked that pitcher Braden Olthoff’s glove be checked for pine tar. The Tulane pitcher told reporters that being accused of using an illegal substance only fired him up even more.

“That (being checked) has never happened to me,” Olthoff said, per Guerry Smith of NOLA.com. “I’ve never been one to use any pine tar or any other substance. The umpire said we gotta check your glove. I loved it. That fired me up even more and it fired up our dugout. I took that as a compliment. Obviously, they thought I was cheating, so I took that energy the rest of the way.”

Now, the pine tar accusation is getting the Jomboy treatment with a “breakdown” of the incident (featuring some NSFW language):

Olthoff enjoyed the Jomboy breakdown, offering an explanation for what he was up to on the mound:

Hopefully, Jomboy will revisit MSU and highlight a more positive outcome for the Diamond Dogs.
