Missouri didn’t reach its preseason goal of making it to the College Football Playoff, but on Sunday, the Tigers learned who their bowl opponent will be. Eli Drinkwitz’s team will face Iowa in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl in Nashville on Dec. 30.

After a 4-0 start, the Tigers were blown out by a score of 41-10 in College Station against Texas A&M. They then won their next two games but were later shut out by Alabama.

The chances at making the CFP disappeared when the Tigers lost in the final seconds on the road at South Carolina, but they won their last 2 games to finish 9-3 on the season. The Tigers ultimately finished No. 19 in the final Playoff rankings.

Iowa continued its solid run under Kirk Ferentz by going 8-4. The Hawkeyes lost to Iowa State 20-19 in the second game of the season, and were sitting at 4-3 after a 32-20 loss at Michigan State. However, the team ended the season on a positive note, winning four of its last five games, with its lone loss being at UCLA.

This is the first time that Missouri will play in the Music City Bowl, while the Hawkeyes defeated Kentucky 21-0 in the 2022 Music City Bowl. These 2 teams were supposed to play in the 2020 Music City Bowl, but the game was canceled because of COVID-19.

The last time these 2 teams played was in the 2010 Insight Bowl, with Iowa winning that game 27-24. The game will be played at Nissan Stadium on Dec. 30, and the game will be on ESPN at 2:30 p.m. ET.
