Georgia fullback Quayvon Hicks has taken some snaps at tailback this week in practice, and says he’s willing to carry the ball if he’s asked to.
Nick Chubb, the Bulldogs’ starting tailback, suffered a season-ending knee injury last Saturday in Georgia’s 38-31 loss to Tennessee.
The Bulldogs have three experienced tailbacks – Sony Michel, Keith Marshall and Brendan Douglas – but have given Hicks some reps at the position this week. Michel, who has rushed for 421 yards and four touchdowns this season, will likely be the Bulldogs’ primary ballcarrier with Chubb out.
If he were used at tailback, the 6-foot-2, 260-pound Hicks would be one of college football’s biggest running backs.
“Having a background of playing the position, 260 pounds, just pound the rock,” Hicks told the Athens Banner-Herald. “I do what I do best, just like fullback. I feel like it’s a man’s position. You’ve got to be a man. I hate seeing my man Nick Chubb go down, but he was a man. He did everything he could do on a day-to-day basis.”
Hicks, a senior from Blackshear, Ga., has not carried the ball this year, but has run for 157 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries in his Bulldog career.
