Mizzou likely to land UNC grad transfer

It’s no secret that the Missouri Tigers need offensive line help heading into the 2016 season.

Longtime starters Evan Boehm and Connor McGovern are off to the NFL and key contributors Taylor Chappell, Brad McNulty and Mitch Hall are all gone, leaving the Tigers with little to work with.

Meanwhile, Nate Crawford, who was slated to be the Tigers’ only returning starter, had back surgery this spring and Clay Rhodes, expected to contribute this year, is no longer on the Missouri roster, complicating matters even further.

However, help could be on the way. According to rivals.com, North Carolina senior offensive guard Will Dancy is transferring and the Tigers are the most likely landing spot.

As a graduate transfer, Dancy will be eligible to play for Mizzou right away. Though he’s coming off a season-ending injury that caused him to redshirt in 2015, Dancy played in 13 games for the Tar Heels in 2014, starting two.

Even if the Tigers land Dancy, there will still be work to do along the offensive line. With QB Drew Lock entering his sophomore season, Missouri needs to keep him upright so he can progress from a shaky freshman campaign. The Tigers also need to improve upon their abysmal rushing offense from 2015, in which they finished 119th out of 127 schools.

That won’t be easy without stalwarts like Boehm and McGovern, but every little bit helps and the Tigers will almost certainly be better off with Dancy than without.
