Mykel Williams did not work out during the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, revealing during the media portion of the event that he was still trying to get completely healthy from a lingering injury.
The star pass rusher for Georgia under Kirby Smart, Williams told the media that he played at less than 60% health at times during the 2024 season. Williams also said he did not participate in weekly practices until the Texas game midway through the season, using most of his time to rehab the injury to try and stay on the field.
As a result of that injury, Williams delayed his physical testing until Georgia’s Pro Day, which went down on Wednesday. The 40-yard dash was of particular interest with Williams running unofficial times of 4.73 and 4.81 seconds.
Those times would put Williams outside the top 10 and squarely in the middle of the pack for the edge group to run in Indianapolis.
Overall, the time is not an entirely bad sign, provided Williams is still getting back to full health and delivers some solid on-field drills for interested NFL teams. He confirmed teams will have to wait a bit longer for those drills, setting an April 17 workout alongside teammate Jalon Walker for further testing.
Williams also said he believes playing through his injury was the right call last year. He believes it speaks to his toughness for the next level.
