Nate Oats cracks sharp joke about Mizzou after press conference is interrupted by fire alarm
Nate Oats was in a surprisingly light mood Wednesday night following a 110-98 loss to No. 15 Mizzou. At least, for a moment.
The Alabama head coach’s postgame press conference was briefly interrupted by a fire alarm. “Perfect, press conference over, I guess,” he said as the alarm started to blare. And when an automated message stated that a fire was reported inside Mizzou Arena, Oats took the opportunity to fire off a joke and praise Mizzou.
“Yeah, they were on fire tonight. That’s for sure,” Oats said as reporters around him broke out laughing. “We’ve known that for about 2 hours.”
Mizzou opened the game on a 12-0 run, scored 59 points in the first half, and finished with its first 100-point game against a conference opponent since 2009.
Mark Mitchell scored a career-high 31 points. Caleb Grill scored 25. Mizzou ended the game shooting 60% from the floor and 39% from 3-point range.
Alabama shot 54% for the game, sank 13 triples, and still lost by 12 points. The fourth-ranked Crimson Tide just had no answer for Mitchell or Mizzou’s offense.
Alabama (21-5, 10-3 SEC) will try and end its first losing streak of the year on Saturday when it hosts No. 17 Kentucky. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. ET on ESPN.
