NC State is expected to sign former Temple edge rusher Tra Thomas out of the transfer portal, according to a report.

That news comes via 247Sports’ Chris Hummer, who notes that Thomas has been very productive during his collegiate career. He’s racked up 72 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 8 sacks during his time with the Owls.

Thomas has spent the last 3 years with Temple and earned playing time in each campaign. He redshirted after sustaining a season-ending injury in 2022 before becoming a key member of Temple’s defensive line in 2023 and 2024.

Thomas is coming off of a very strong season at Temple. He recorded 28 tackles, 5 tackles for loss and 2 sacks in 2024. He also did so while wearing a single-digit uniform number — a tradition at Temple that honors players who “lead by example on and off the field.”

Thomas will likely have an opportunity to make an immediate impact with the Wolfpack next fall. NC State will be hoping to take a step forward defensively in 2024. The Wolfpack ranked just 13th in yards per play allowed in the ACC this fall. DJ Eliot will be leading NC State’s defense next fall after Tony Gibson departed for the Marshall head coaching job.

Tra Thomas is 1 of 8 transfers to pick NC State so far this offseason.
