Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts is optimistic about how prospective coaches will view the program’s vacant head coaching position.
After a Week 2 loss to Georgia Southern, Nebraska fired Scott Frost as the team’s head coach. Nebraska will have an important decision to make over the course of the regular season.

As is the standard with any job, a wide net will be casted throughout college football to find the right head coach for Nebraska. Alberts believes that a coach will take interest in this job:
“Somebody is going to look at this job and say ‘wow, this is a diamond in the rough,'” Alberts said.
At one time, Nebraska was a perennial force in college football. Unfortunately, the program fell back after Bo Pelini was fired in 2014. Nebraska only had 1 winning season since Pelini left, which was in 2016 under Mike Riley.
Nebraska elevated Mickey Joseph to the interim head coach role following Frost’s firing. Joseph could be a permanent option for Nebraska, but the program could hire an outside coach. Alberts wants a coach who will believe in the program’s future. It will take a lot of work from the next head coach to revive Nebraska.
Nebraska will host Indiana on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
