Undrafted rookie receiver Stephen Guidry decides to opt-out of 2020 season

Stephen Guidry has decided it’s not worth the risk to try and make the Dallas Cowboys official roster.
According to multiple reports, the rookie receiver from Mississippi State has decided to opt-out of the upcoming NFL season after being signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent.
On the surface, that’s an interesting decision considering Guidry has yet to make much during his brief NFL career after going undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Considering Guidry caught just 30 passes for 387 yards and five touchdowns during his senior season at Mississippi State, which included six games of catching two passes or less, it’s reasonable to assume he may not have made the final roster with the Dallas Cowboys this season.
Pro Football Talk is reporting that players that decide to opt-out of the coming NFL season and are not deemed “high risk” to get COVID-19 will receive $150,000 in stipend funds and their rights will be held by their current team.
Read into that how you will but at the very least, it appears Guidry has locked up $150,000 from the Cowboys before training camp even begins.
While he likely would have made significantly more money had he opted to play the season and made the roster in Dallas, Guidry would have made significantly less had he failed to make the team in 2020.
UPDATE: NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero is reporting that undrafted rookies are not eligible for the $150,000 stipend.
