Dabo Swinney asked about speculation he could be candidate to be next Houston Texans coach
Is there a Dabo Swinney and Deshaun Watson reunion in the mix?
Not if you ask the current Clemson head coach.
Following Monday’s news that the Texans fired 7-year head coach Bill O’Brien after an 0-4 start to the season, Swinney was asked about the vacant job and if he had heard from Watson, the leader of Swinney’s 2016 National Championship winning Clemson team.
“That is not even anything that I want to even have to even think about,” Swinney said about the job and that he also hadn’t talked to Watson.
The obvious Watson connection aside, Swinney is also reportedly very close with Texans Executive vice president Jack Easterby, who now has most of the personnel power in the front office with O’Brien gone.
Swinney has also been linked to potential future head coaching openings among the worst NFL teams. Tigers QB Trevor Lawrence is believed to be the first pick in the Draft, and teams may be enticed to take Lawrence and Swinney as a package deal.
For now, though, Swinney has a crucial week to prepare for. No. 1 Clemson hosts No. 7 Miami on Saturday.
