It’s already that time where we start to see players’ NFL stocks rise and fall. I caught up with my buddy, who is an NFL scout, to get the weekly draft stock news about SEC players. A little teaser here, but the Ole Miss Rebels have several players on the rise.
STOCK RISING
Robert Nkemdiche, Ole Miss
Last week: 2 tackles, 1 TFL, 1-yard touchdown run
2015 season: 5 tackes, 1 TFL, 1 blocked kick, 1 receiving touchdown, 1 rushing touchdown
Size: 6-foot-4, 300 pounds
NFL draft projection: 1-2 round
The junior has been all over the field, both on defense and offense. “He’s a more athletic Suh,” the scout said. Um … that says it all, doesn’t it? If Nkemdiche can stay healthy, he will no doubt be a first-round draft pick. The guy has top-flight athleticism and a great motor from what I’ve seen on tape. He may not be as dirty of a player as Suh either.
Laquan Treadwell, Ole Miss
Last week: 5 receptions, 73 yards
2015 season: 9 receptions, 117 yds
Size: 6-foot-2, 215 pounds
NFL draft projection: 1-2 round
The junior wide receiver is a big target. “You’d appreciate this, he is very comparable to Alshon Jeffery, but a little faster,” the scout said. That says a hell of a lot to me because I know exactly how special of a player Alshon was. His draft position was a little questionable after a devastating injury last year, but Treadwell shows zero signs of it bothering him physically or mentally.
Laremy Tunsil, Ole Miss
Last week: N/A
2015 season: N/A
Size: 6-foot-5, 310 pounds
NFL draft projection: 1-2 round
The offensive tackle hasn’t yet played for the Rebels due to an NCAA investigation, but he is one of the top offensive lineman in the entire country. “The guy is super athletic with great feet and hips as well as one of the longest arm reaches in the entire country,” the scout said. Hopefully his suspension gets resolved so he can get on the field.
Leonard Floyd, Georgia
Last week: 7 total tackles, .5 sack, 1 pass defense
2015 season: 15 total tackles, 1 sack, 1 pass defense
Size: 6-foot-4, 235 pounds
NFL draft projection: 1-2 round
The redshirt junior is one of the bigger linebackers in the nation. “He decided to come back another year and has been dominant for the Georgia defense in the first two weeks. He’s fast, long, and aggressive. Very underrated as a pass defender as well,” the scout said.
Germain Ifedi, Texas A&M
Last week: Pancakes
2015 season: Pancakes
Size: 6-foot-5, 330
NFL draft projection: 1-2 round
The redshirt junior is a moose. He looks like a mountain out there. Why does it seem like the Aggies always have a first-rounder at offensive tackle? “Texas A&M coaches their lineman extremely well and Ifedi has the size, strength and stamina to be an early-round guy. His stock is definitely on the rise,” the scout said.
STOCK FALLING
As far as guys with slumping NFL stocks, it’s too early in the season to see much drop in stock. Expect that to change after this weekend when we have some pretty big matchups around the SEC.
