Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald is putting together an impressive string of performances as of late. The redshirt sophomore has recorded at least two rushing touchdowns in each of his last four consecutive games, becoming the first Mississippi State player to do so since 1970.

That’s a feat that eluded even Dak Prescott, arguably the greatest player in Mississippi State history and Fitzgerald’s predecessor. Though the sophomore saw his early struggles replacing Prescott, he’s coming off arguably his best two performances since taking over the offense.

Fitzgerald threw for a career-best 417 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions on 20 of 35 passing and recorded 119 yards and two scores on 19 rushing attempts in Mississippi State’s 56-41 win over Samford in Week 9. He added 209 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions on 18 of 31 passing, as well as 182 yards and two scores on 20 rushing attempts during the Bulldogs’ 35-28 upset of Texas A&M Saturday.

That performance earned him SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors. Mississippi State fans should be excited about what looks to be a bright future for Fitzgerald in Starkville.
