Nick Fitzgerald made his season debut in Mississippi State’s 31-10 win over Kansas State this past Saturday, but the senior quarterback wasn’t at his best.

Fitzgerald threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw an interception and completed only 11 of his 27 pass attempts.

What’s the biggest thing Fitzgerald needs to do to improve? According to him, he needs better accuracy.

“I think I was making the right decisions, just not putting the ball where it needed to be,” Fitzgerald told the media on Tuesday. “Learn from it, move on and keep working on it.”

Fitzgerald missed the Bulldogs’ season opener due to being suspended for a violation of team rules. So while most of the team’s players appeared in Mississippi State’s season-opening win vs. Stephen F. Austin, Fitzgerald was taking the field for the first time this season against Kansas State.

“Maybe I was just a little too excited to be in there,” Fitzgerald told the media. “Just overthrowing a few guys, just excited to be out there in the game, and I had that adrenaline rushing for the first time in a long time. I just kind of put a little too much on a couple balls.”

The No. 16-ranked Bulldogs return to action when they host Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
