Nick Saban was the only coach to defeat Georgia since Carson Beck took over as starting QB.  Stopping Beck will be one of the most important things on Alabama’s agenda when the Crimson Tide face off against UGA on Saturday.

The former Crimson Tide head coach turned college football analyst weighed in during College Gameday on what the Bulldogs quarterback brings to the table and how he’ll affect the game.

“I think Georgia is still looking for playmakers on offense, which receivers are going to step up,” Saban said. “They had Bowers, they had McConkey, those guys were mismatched players but somebody has got to step up for that to happen. But Carson Beck is back.”

The key, in Saban’s eyes, is for Georgia to maintain a clean pocket for Beck to throw out of. It’s going to be interesting to see how the loss of key offensive lineman Tate Ratledge affects things on that front.

“He’s a very good quarterback, is a great reader of defenses and when this guy can sit in the pocket and throw the ball, he’s so accurate in what he can do.”

Saban praised Beck’s accuracy and ability to make throws at all levels of the field, as well as his timing and delivery.

The other thing that Beck brings to the table is his ability to make things happen with his improvisation ability. Former Georgia quarterback JT Daniels highlighted that ahead of the season.

“He’s got one thing that I never had. He’s a little more athletic than I am, but he has the just athletic enough (ability). Watching the Alabama game, I saw it two or three teams — you saw it all throughout the year with him — he’s obviously elite and efficient in the pocket and that was never going to be a question with him,” Daniels said in an interview with Bulldogs reporter Mike Griffith.

Beck has completed 68.3% of his passes for 680 yards with 7 touchdowns so far this season and will look to build upon that when the Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
