Nick Saban will never forget the “Bluegrass Miracle”. With No. 8 Alabama set to take on host Kentucky this weekend, Saban was asked about the classic college football game from 2002.
Saban’s No. 16 LSU squad edged Kentucky on a last-second 75-yard Hail Mary touchdown caught by Devery Henderson after deflections. During a recent press conference, Saban had a hilarious reaction and then offered his recollections of the victory.
“Look, I remember we didn’t play very well. I remember they poured Gatorade on the coach. I remember there was about a 30 mile per hour wind that we had at our back. The guy threw the ball and it just kept going and going and going. Their guys misjudged the ball and tipped it. Devery Henderson caught it and ran for a touchdown. That’s basically what I remember.”
Meanwhile, Alabama has been particularly dominant against Kentucky with a 38-2-1 advantage in the all-time series. Alabama has won 7 straight contests against Kentucky. Kentucky’s last victory vs. Alabama was a 40-34 win in 1997.
Alabama is coming off a critical 42-28 victory vs. LSU. Meanwhile, Kentucky reached bowl eligibility with a 24-3 win against Mississippi State. However the status of Kentucky starting quarterback Devin Leary (eye) is still in question.
Alabama at Kentucky is slated for a noon EST kickoff and will be televised on ESPN.
