Nick Saban ribs Lee Corso for Auburn upset pick: ‘Not so fast’

Nick Saban was quick to throw Lee Corso’s famous phrase right back at him Saturday morning.
Corso and the College GameDay crew discussed some of the more important matchups on the schedule Saturday, and inevitably the crew came around to the Iron Bowl between Auburn and Alabama.
Corso likes Auburn in this matchup, thanks in part to the rivalry atmosphere and Alabama’s recent backbreaker at Oklahoma last week. But of course, the former Alabama coach wasn’t having any of that.
Lee Corso talks about a “big upset” coming from Auburn at Alabama.

Saban, as you can hear above, insisted that, “Adversity causes some to break, and some to be great. That’s Alabama’s challenge today.”
And certainly, this is much more than a regular matchup against a 5-6 Auburn team on Saturday for Alabama.
First, there are the implications behind this game. If Auburn wins, Hugh Freeze and Co. will crack a bowl game at 6-6 on the season.
If Alabama wins, their chances for a spot in the College Football Playoff stay, just barely, alive. Alabama would need a win and some considerable help from the likes of Purdue (against Indiana), Vanderbilt (against Tennessee) and Cal (against SMU). Not exactly elite-tier college football programs. And even with all the above happening, the odds are shaky at best.
For Kalen DeBoer though, it’s all about controlling what he can control. It starts against the Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on ABC.
