Commentator Verne Lundquist has been a staple within the SEC for quite sometime.
The 76-year-old boisterous and energetic figure has called SEC contests on CBS for the past 17 years. “Uncle Verne” has truly been a staple within the sport — and thus is both an iconic and beloved individual.
On Thursday, Lundquist — who will retire at the conclusion of this season — was a guest on Nick Saban’s weekly radio show.
The two chummed it up as if they were lifelong friends — reliving many fun memories, including this one:
Verne Lundquist reminisces about the 1st game he called was b/w Ohio & Kent St. in 1974, when Nick Saban was a 2nd yr grad asst at Kent St.

Lundquist spoke about Saban’s generosity with fans, and Saban alludes to his penchant for mimicking the broadcaster during press conferences:

Nick Saban: "Verne took a page out of my book, you didn't answer the question. When I get a question I don't want to answer, I tell a story"

Lastly, the two complimented one another with exceptionally high praise:
Nick Saban on Verne Lundquist: "I tell you what, this guy is a hall of famer in everyone's book for what he's done and how he's done it."

Lundquist then followed with, “I think there’s a chance Nick can be recognized as the greatest coach, ever.”
