Nico Iamaleava may be happy with his deal at Tennessee after-all.

On Thursday, On3 reported that Iamaleava is in active contract negotiations with Tennessee ahead of the start of the spring transfer portal window. However, a conflicting report emerged late Thursday night.

According to 247Sports’ Chris Hummer, Brandon Huffman and John Talty, a close family friend in Iamaleava’s camp said the young QB is not engaged in contract talks with the Vols. The report cites a conversation with Cordell Landers, who is a family friend of the Iamaleavas and works with players in California.

“The family are happy (with Tennessee),” Landers told 247Sports. “There are no (contract negotiations), they’re happy with the contract they have.”

While that should be a sigh-of-relief for Tennessee fans, it’s worth noting Iamaleava himself has yet to issue any kind of a public denial regarding the original report from On3. Per 247Sports’ report, the lack of any statement from Iamaleava on this matter is a source of “frustrations” for Tennessee.

Iamaleava completed his first full year as Tennessee’s starter in 2024. He had something of an up-and-down season, throwing for 2,616 yards, 19 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

If Iamaleava does enter the portal during the spring window, he’d immediately become the most sought-after transfer on the market. He helped the Vols reach the College Football Playoff last season for the first time and is considered to be one of the best young quarterbacks in the sport.

The spring portal window opens on Wednesday.
