Nico Iamaleava transfer: Potential teams reportedly waiting for NIL demands to drop

Nico Iamaleava is getting ready to embark on his transfer portal journey when things open this week after the relationship between Tennessee and the quarterback fell apart. However, his chance at getting more money in the portal is potentially decreasing.
According to widespread reporting, Iamaleava and his camp were seeking an increase in his NIL package from the Vols for the 2025 season. He was reportedly set to make a little over $2 million, and head coach Josh Heupel confirmed the program was moving forward without the QB on Saturday.
So, where does Iamaleava turn from here? That remains to be seen, especially with a couple of prominent potential suitors in USC and Notre Dame reportedly indicating they have no interest in Iamaleava.
A Tuesday report from On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos also indicates a number of teams are watching Iamaleava’s saga, but that multiple teams are waiting a bit before pursuing the QB. According to Nakos, multiple programs will be contenders for Iamaleava’s commitment, but only if his NIL demands drop to around $1 million.

That is certainly a turn of events for Iamaleava, but all it ultimately takes is one team to believe in the QB to meet his demands. However, if there is a list of teams waiting to watch his cost come down, it could mean any bidding war for his services ultimately comes in less than what he was originally set to make with the Vols.
