Nico Iamaleava’s father issues blunt response to reported contract negotiations
There’s another update in the Nico Iamaleava contract saga.
On Thursday, On3’s Pete Nakos reported that the Tennessee quarterback was engaged in contract discussions ahead of the spring portal opening next week. Iamaleava could theoretically leave Knoxville in search of a better deal ahead of the 2025 season.
However, Iamaleava’s father, Nic Iamaleava, responded to that report late Thursday night with a strong denial. He says he told Nakos he had “no idea” what he was talking about and indicated the leak came from Tennessee’s camp.
This statement is in line with what a family friend told 247Sports on Thursday evening. Iamaleava himself has not yet responded to the reports regarding ongoing contract talks, but there are now 2 people in his camp who are denying any uneasiness ahead of the 2025 season.
That’s great news for Vols fans who are counting on Iamaleava to take a big step forward in 2025. Last season, the young quarterback led the Vols to the College Football Playoff for the first time and had a strong first season as Tennessee’s starting QB.
Tennessee is scheduled to finish up spring practices with the annual Orange & White game on Saturday in Knoxville. The spring portal window will officially open on April 16.
