Pro Football Focus released their midseason picks for the top freshmen in the country, with the SEC leading all conferences with nine players making the team.

SEC All-Freshmen Selections

  • Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M
  • Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama
  • Maea Teuhema, LG, LSU
  • Zack Bailey, C, South Carolina
  • Arden Key, Edge, LSU
  • Terry Beckner Jr., Interior D line, Missouri
  • Trenton Thompson, Interior D line, Georgia
  • Kevin Toliver II, CB, LSU
  • Minkah Fitzpatrick, CB, Alabama

Despite Bama having, in my opinion, the most talented future star listed above, no team had more selections, three, than the undefeated LSU Tigers.

With 400 receiving yards in his past four games, Alabama WR Calvin Ridley is perhaps the most obvious choice to be featured above despite having less yards and touchdowns than A&M WR Christian Kirk. His 45-yard TD catch in the Georgia game earlier this month put Bama up 24-3 and put the Bulldogs away for good in a must-win game for both teams. He finished with his first 100-yard game of his career, which he followed up with nine catches for 140 yards and a touchdown against Arkansas the next week.

The former 5-star recruit looks every bit like the next great Crimson Tide receiver to follow Julio Jones and Amari Cooper to NFL stardom.
