North Carolina dropped a heartbreaker to Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon.

UNC tied the game in the 4th quarter after scoring twice in the final 7 minutes, including a 26-yard field goal with just 44 seconds remaining. The game looked to be headed to overtime tied at 34-34.

But there was still a little bit of time left for Georgia Tech to make something happen. Running back Jamal Haynes obliged, taking a simple handoff up the middle 68 yards through the heart of UNC’s defense for the game-winning score.

Here’s a replay:

Haynes finished the game with 170 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on 19 carries.

This is North Carolina’s fourth consecutive loss since its 3-0 start to the season. UNC has now dropped games to James Madison, Duke, Pitt and the Yellow Jackets. All 3 games against ACC opponents were close in the fourth quarter, but ended with Carolina on the losing end.

For Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets are now 5-2 on the season and are just 1 win away from bowl eligibility. They will host Notre Dame next weekend.
