Notre Dame made a big addition in the class of 2026 on Thursday afternoon.

The Fighting Irish earned a commitment from 4-star offensive tackle Tyler Merrill. That’s according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, who notes that the Pennsylvania native chose Notre Dame over offers from programs such as Alabama, Clemson, Penn State and more.

Merrill is a huge pick up for the Fighting Irish in the class of 2026. He’s currently the No. 61 overall player and the No. 5 interior offensive lineman in the country for this cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 2 player from the state of Pennsylvania.

He attends Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, Penn. Merrill is listed at 6-foot-5, 338 pounds.

Notre Dame initially offered Merrill a scholarship nearly a year ago — way back in March of 2024. Roughly 10 months later, Merrill is now in the fold as a Notre Dame commit.

Notre Dame is off to a fast start in the 2026 high school class, as it often has been under Marcus Freeman. Merrill is the 7th high school player to commit to the Irish this cycle. Overall, Notre Dame’s class ranks No. 5 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Here are some highlights from Merrill’s junior season:
