Notre Dame earned a big recruiting flip late in a recruiting cycle, and the Fighting Irish did so with an in-state talent, as Indianapolis Warren Central Class of 2025 standout Cameron Herron announced on Monday morning that he was switching his commitment from Iowa to Notre Dame.

The 4-star interior offensive lineman took an official visit to South Bend, and the Notre Dame staff have reportedly been in contact with Herron over the past few weeks while Herron impressed the Fighting Irish staff with his dominance at the high school level.

Herron has been on Notre Dame’s radar for a long time now, so it’s not a total shock that he’ll be heading to South Bend after all. He first took a visit to Notre Dame last December for a bowl practice.

Herron returned the next month for the Fighting Irish staff’s junior day, and the feeling at that time was that Notre Dame liked Herron a lot but that the Irish had good leads on many of the offensive linemen they were interested in.

Herron’s next visit to South Bend came in early June, and he impressed the staff that day, although an offer didn’t come. Later in June, Herron committed to Iowa over Boston College, West Virginia, Northwestern, Cincinnati and Louisville.

Still, Notre Dame kept Herron on its radar going into his senior season, and now he’s heading to South Bend after all.

Herron’s flip gives the Irish 4 offensive line commits and their first true interior offensive lineman of the class. Notre Dame now has 22 total verbal commitments in its 2025 class.
