Notre Dame OC Tommy Rees candidly shares insight into coaching transition
When former Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly announced he was headed to LSU, it sent shockwaves throughout college football. But the biggest shock of course had to be to Kelly’s players and coaching staff who didn’t have a clue about their futures at the time.
One of those coaches who had to make a decision about what he planned to do was offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. Rees admits candidly in a new interview that he had no idea at first what his plans were for the future.
#NotreDame OC Tommy Rees was as candid as a coach will get in discussing the Irish’s HC change & how close he was to leaving for LSU on @ryenarussillo‘s podcast.

“Deep down, I always wanted to stay,” Rees said on an episode of The Ryen Russillo Podcast, “but I didn’t know if that was going to be an opportunity or not.”
Rees also said going to LSU might have been the safer choice but he decided to stick it out.
“I know what I’m getting with Coach Kelly. “I know what LSU is. That was the safer of the two decisions. I knew what I was getting into. Staying was a little more unknown. I know Notre Dame and know the players, but this is a new regime.”
Rees seems to be satisfied with his decision to stay put in South Bend.
