Notre Dame has opened as a 6.5-point favorite over Georgia.

The game line came out Monday as opposed to Sunday when it usually would. That’s because the Las Vegas odds makers were awaiting the status of Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason.

Eason went down in the first half of the Bulldogs’ 31-10, season-opening win over Appalachian State Saturday.

Head coach Kirby Smart identified the injury as a sprain after the game. On Monday, after getting more information on Eason’s status, he gave an update.

“I’ll open on a quick update on Jacob… We found he has a sprained left knee ligament. Not sure the length of time he’ll be out. It will be week-to-week,” Smart said. “The injury is non-surgical. He will be back this year. We were fortunate it wasn’t worse than it was.”

He went on to clarify that Eason would not play in the Dawgs’ road test against Notre Dame on Saturday.

It is unclear exactly how the news of Eason’s absence affected the game line, but it evidently had some impact for Vegas to wait on his status.

Georgia and Notre Dame will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC. Jake Fromm will start for Georgia.
