Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith began a three-year stint as a College Football Playoff Selection Committee member in December of 2017, and according to executive director Bill Hancock, this Urban Meyer scandal will not affect that position.

On Wednesday, Ohio State decided to suspend Smith without pay from Aug. 31 to Sept. 16, after an internal investigation concluded that he had mishandled domestic assault allegations made by the wife of former Ohio State assistant coach Zach Smith.

Smith also has previous affiliations with the NCAA Management Council, the NCAA Committee on Infractions, the NCAA Football Rules Committee and the Rose Bowl Management Committee. He also served as a member of the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Committee in 2006 and became the chair in 2010.

Despite facing a suspension indicating he did not live up to the responsibilities of his job title at Ohio State, Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic is reporting that Smith will remain on the College Football Playoff committee:
