Oklahoma RB Rodney Anderson to miss season with knee injury

In a development with possible College Football Playoff implications, Oklahoma announced Sunday night that its preseason All Big-12 running back will miss the rest of the season.
Redshirt junior Rodney Anderson injured his knee in the second half of the Sooners 49-21 win over UCLA on Saturday. The impact he could have had in 2018 won’t be known, but Anderson certainly would have played a major role.
“He’s played a lot of great football and has a lot more ahead of him,” head coach Lincoln Riley said in a statement. “He’s just a tremendous person and player and we’ll miss him on the field. But we know he’ll be with us every step of the way as a team captain, and that other players will step up in his place.”
Anderson finished last season with a team high 1,161 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. Anderson had 119 yards with three touchdowns on 11 carries this season prior to the injury.
It’s just the latest in a string of bad breaks for the Texas native. Anderson broke his leg in the second game of the 2015 season and fractured a vertebra during preseason camp in 2016.
OU announced the news Sunday night via Twitter:
