Oklahoma saw one of the more impressive streaks in recent draft history come to an end on Saturday.

With just 2 players selected in the 2025 NFL Draft, the program’s streak of 22 consecutive years with at least 3 picks was officially ended. Former Oklahoma linebacker Danny Stutsman was taken with the 112th pick in the fourth round, and he was followed shortly thereafter by defensive back Billy Bowman with the 118th pick. But that was it.

The 2 selections were the fewest in a single draft for the program since 2002.

The Sooners didn’t have a player taken during the first 3 rounds of the draft for the first time since 2014. Stutsman’s selection at No. 112 marked the latest for the first Oklahoma pick in a draft since 1997.

Oklahoma’s streak of 22 drafts with at least 3 players was the third-longest in the nation entering this year’s draft.

It’s the latest blow to the Sooner brand under head coach Brent Venables. Prior to the 2024 NFL Draft, OU had seen at least 4 players selected in 16 consecutive draft cycles. Entering last year’s event, that was the longest streak in the nation. Though OU only had 3 players selected last spring, it still produced a first-round pick.

The Sooners entered into this year’s event with the fourth-most selections of any school in draft history. The 49 all-time first-round Oklahoma draft picks rank among the most in the country.

Venables is entering into a pivotal fall with OU. The Sooners are coming off a 6-7 season that featured just 2 wins in 8 tries against SEC competition. As things stand, only 3 coaches in program history have posted a worse winning percentage in 3 years or more with the school.

And with the SEC absolutely smashing the all-time record for total draft picks in a single cycle this year, the league has arguably never been more talented.
