Oklahoma made an important addition to its 2025 roster on Friday morning.

The Sooners have reportedly signed former UTSA kicker Tate Sandell out of the transfer portal. That’s according to On3’s Pete Nakos, who shared the news on Friday morning:

Oklahoma used 2 kickers last season: Zach Schmit and Tyler Keltner. That duo combined to make 16-of-20 field goals on the season. However, both of those players have since moved on from the program so the Sooners have been in need of a new option at kicker.

The only kickers listed on OU’s roster this spring were Liam Evans and Grayson Miller. Evans is a redshirt freshman from Moore, Oklahoma. He went 1-for-1 on extra point attempts last season. Miller is a transfer from the University of Central Oklahoma.

As for Sandell, he’s a proven kicker at the FBS level. He went 17-of-18 on kicks that were 49 yards or less last season for the Road Runners. He boasts a career-long of 54 yards as well. His average made field goal distance last season was 38.3 yards.

Sandell will arrive in Norman with 2 years of eligibility remaining.
