Oklahoma is reportedly in the mix to land one of the top available wide receiver transfers on the market.
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, the Sooners will host former McNeese State wide receiver Jer’Michael Carter on a recruiting visit on Friday. The 6-foot-4 Carter was a standout for McNeese last season, catching 37 passes for 537 yards and 3 touchdowns.
While those numbers may not be eye-popping, they’re impressive when put in the proper context. No other McNeese State player had more than 325 receiving yards last season. The Cowboys ran the ball on almost 60% of their offensive plays last season, so there wasn’t much opportunity for Carter to put up big numbers.
McNeese also had just 12 passing touchdowns all season in 2024. Prior to Carter, the last time a McNeese receiver managed more than 525 yards in a single season was in 2019 when Cyron Sutton and Trevor Begue both accomplished that feat.
Oklahoma has been in the market for a wide receiver this offseason after losing Javonnie Gibson to a leg injury during spring ball. The Sooners have signed 3 transfers so far during the spring window, but none at receiver.
Carter has 2 years of eligibility remaining.
