Oklahoma is celebrating 100 years of Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in 2024. Each home game will have a different theme this fall.
The Bud Wilkinson era is in the spotlight for the Sept. 7 game against Houston (7:45 p.m. ET, SEC Network). The Sooners have decided to turn the clock back with throwback uniforms that recall Sooner squads from 1946-56.
OU unveiled the throwback threads on Thursday.

The throwback look features crimson jerseys with white numerals and white tri-stripes on the shoulder sleeves. A crimson stripe is featured on the side of the white pants and on the top of the logo-free white helmet.

Fans are likely to be reminded of the “Sooner Legacy” uniform OU sported on Aug. 30, 2003, against North Texas, worn in a 37-3 victory, the first contest in the expanded Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Wilkinson, who was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1969, coached the Sooners from 1947-63, posting a 145-29-4 record with an 82.6% winning percentage. He led Oklahoma to 47 consecutive wins from the 1953 to ’57 seasons. Wilkinson was the head coach for OU’s first three AP national championships in 1950, ’55 and ’56.
Oklahoma plays its first game as an SEC team on Friday, Aug. 30, against Temple. It’s the Sooners’ third season under head coach Brent Venables. OU is 16-10 in Venables’ first two seasons.
