As Ole Miss hits the homestretch of the SEC West race, here are five players to watch when the Rebels take on Auburn Saturday:
RBs Akeem Judd/Jordan Wilkins: This duo backs up starting RB Jaylen Walton, but they are studs. Walton is a smallish back, and these two are bruisers. They come in and get the tough yards and that really comes in handy for the Rebs. They have each scored two touchdowns and have combined for 476 hard-earned yards.
LB C.J. Johnson: The linebacker came back from injury last week against Texas A&M and played well with a fumble recovery and a boatload of tackles. He is good already, but he is going to get better as he heals. He is going to make the Landshark defense that is already tough even tougher.
WR Quincy Adeboyejo: OK, he is not Laquon Treadwell, but no one is. But the Texan leads the Rebels in touchdown catches. And let’s face it, his name is just cool to say. At 16.5 yards per catch, he is a weapon that makes the Ole Miss receiving corps as talented as any team in the country.
OL Justin Bell: The Jackson, Miss., native is the unsung hero of the Ole Miss offense. He has played multiple positions and is one of many Rebels to work through injuries to get back on the field. A 6-foot-2, 347-pound senior, Bell is equally effective in pass protection and blocking for the run. Keep an eye on number 68.
K Gary Wunderlich: The kicker has only missed three field goals this year and is perfect in extra points. But last week, he showed a new talent as a punter. Replacing an injured Will Gleeson, Wunderlich punted three times and averaged more than 50 yards a kick. All of them died inside the Aggies’ 20-yard line.
