Ole Miss flips transfer LB Andrew Jones away from South Carolina commitment
Ole Miss is preparing to take part in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl against Duke on Jan. 2. Ahead of that matchup, the Rebels and every other team are busy dealing with the transfer portal.
Just like last year’s offseason, Ole Miss is currently building one of the most impressive transfer classes in the nation. On Friday, the team added another talented player, this time flipping former Grambling linebacker Andrew Jones from his South Carolina commitment.
Jones committed to the Gamecocks on Wednesday after racking up 122 total tackles for the Tigers in 2024. The LB also picked up 3 sacks and 1 forced fumble, making him a hot commodity in the portal.
Before committing to South Carolina, Jones visited Oklahoma State and received offers from several schools. However, after just 2 days, the LB changed his mind and decided to commit to Ole Miss.
Jones started his college career at Memphis and played for Memphis in 2022 while collecting 4 tackles and 1 forced fumble. He then transferred to Grambling where he spent 2023 and 2024.
The 2024 season was a breakout campaign for Jones. In addition to 122 tackles, the LB also picked up a whopping 20.5 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. As a result of that performance, Jones received SWAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors and was named a first-team all-conference player.
The Rebels have now landed 14 transfers via the portal, including Jones. Jones is the 2nd off-ball LB to commit to the Rebels, joining Jaden Yates from Marshall.
