Ole Miss standout Hunter Elliott pitched 5 innings on Opening Day for the Rebels and fanned 9, but hasn’t taken the mound since.

Coach Mike Bianco said last week Elliott was out with forearm tightness and undergoing MRI testing to determine the extent of the issue. Bianco shared a little more info on the situation Wednesday evening after a 4-3 win over Louisiana Tech.

Elliott is dealing with a sprained UCL. That injury called for 3 weeks off from pitching, two of which have already been served. Assuming no setbacks, Ole Miss is expecting Elliott to return to game action by mid-April.

That’s excellent news for Ole Miss, confirming its star arm didn’t sustain any kind of significant injury.

In his first year with the Rebels, the lefty from Tupelo was named a 2022 Freshman All-American, named to the 2022 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, and named to the Coral Gables Regional All-Tournament team.

Ole Miss is off to a 7-2 start this season, and getting ready to head to Minneapolis, Minnesota for the Cambria College Classic. The Rebels battle No. 17 Maryland on Friday, then Minnesota on Saturday, and Nebraska on Sunday. Ole Miss took 2 of 3 off the Terps in Oxford last week.
