Ole Miss linebacker reportedly withdraws from transfer portal days after entry
Ole Miss linebacker Reginald Hughes reportedly entered the transfer portal on Monday. Forty-eight hours later, he’s had a change of heart.
According to OM Spirit, Hughes withdrew from the portal on Wednesday. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker from Tunica will indeed return for his second season with the Rebels.
Hughes was a consensus 3-star prospect as a junior college recruit in the 2022 class. In 6 games during the 2021 season for Northeast Mississippi C.C., Hughes totaled 22 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. The year prior, he had another 22 tackles to go with 5.5 TFLs and 3.5 sacks.
When he signed with Ole Miss, he was ranked as the No. 1 JUCO linebacker in the class.
He saw action in 12 games last fall for the Rebels, mostly working on special teams. He finished the year with 6 tackles.
Hughes is expected to provide depth at linebacker this upcoming season for Ole Miss.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
